SHILLONG: Aggrieved citizens from Laitumkhrah have lamented that some residents of Gora Lane have been dumping household wastes directly into the Wahthangsiang, a tributary of river Wahumkhrah.
In a memorandum submitted to East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal, the complainants said some residents do not use the conservancy van to dispose off their waste but instead throw the garbage into the river.
The residents demanded an end to the pollution of the river and asked the Deputy Commissioner to issue instructions to the Shillong Municipal Board to erect signage alongside the river warning people against throwing garbage.
