22 g heroin seized, two women held
Aizawl:Mizoram Excise and Narcotics department’s Anti Narcotic Squad seized 22 gram of heroin from Hunthar locality here. Two women, Lalhruaisangi of Hunthar here and Ramhmingthangi of Mizoram-Myanmar border Zokhawthar hamlet in Champhai district, were arrested in this connection, an official statement said today. The accused were remanded to judicial custody. (PTI)
South Korean duped in Assam
Guwahati:A taekwondo grandmaster from South Korea has been duped of over Rs 10 lakh by a fraudster in Assam.The foreigner, Wan Yong Lee, was under the aegis of the Assam Taekwondo Association to train State youths in the martial arts. ‘He came in touch with a person identified as Sonmani Das who gave him some business proposals. Believing Das, the South Korean national paid him over Rs 10 lakh in three installments,’ a police officer said. When Lee found that Das was a fraud, he immediately approached the Dispur police station in the city. Das, a resident of Polashbari, was arrested and taken into five days’ police custody yesterday. Lee had conducted a training camp in Karnataka before coming to Assam. (UNI)
Replica gun stolen from Agartala war memorial
Agartala:A replica gun placed in a war memorial in Agartala, Tripura, has been stolen, police said on Thursday.The war memorial is situated in the midst of a sprawling park and between the state civil secretariat and the Tripura High Court. It was reconstructed and inaugurated by Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Vijay Diwas (Victory Day) on December 16 last year.The war memorial was built to commemorate the sacrifices of Indian soldiers during their battle with the Pakistani Army along the Tripura frontier during the 1971 Bangladesh liberation war.”A complaint was lodged by the military with the New Capital Complex Police Station on March 8, after the replica gun was stolen with an iron helmet. We are probing the incident but no clue yet,” Deputy Superintendent of Police (central) Rajendra Datta informed.The gun was placed upside down and was a wooden replica of a self loading rifle, a weapon extensively used in the battle with the Pakistani soldiers. On the top of the gun was an iron helmet.During the Bangladesh liberation war, 10 million men, women and children from then East Pakistan took shelter in West Bengal, Tripura, Assam and Meghalaya. Guwahati:Two MULTA terrorists were arrested by a joint team of army and Assam police from Goalpara in western Assam today.The terrorists were in possession of pistols and fake Indian currency notes amounting to Rs 2 lakhs.The apprehended terrorists are fake Indian currency note suppliers who hail from Mankachar area of Dhubri, a defence statement said here.In another joint operation conducted by Army and Meghalaya Police, one over ground worker of Achik Matgrik Elite Forces (AMEF, a Meghalaya based terrorist group) was apprehended near Kharkuta last evening.The OGW, identified as Tilling Arengh, was coming to deliver extortion note in village Kharkuta.Five extortion notes of AMEF, one two-wheeler, mobile phones and other documents were recovered from the apprehended OGW.Two hardcore terrorists of the same group were killed in an encounter with security forces on March 17 last. Guwahati:Two Muslim United Liberation Tigers of Asom (MULTA) militants were apprehended yesterday by security forces in Assam’s Goalpara district. The fake currency with a face value of Rs 2 lakh and two pistols were recseized from the two militants. (PTI)
