SHILLONG: The Dorbar Ki Rangbah Shnong- Ri Jaintia, a coordination body of headmen of Jaintia Hills has called for wider consultation on the proposed Jaintia Autonomous District (Establishment of Elaka and Village and Election, Appointment, Powers, Functions and Jurisdiction of Dalloi/Sirdar and Waheh Shnong) Bill, 2015 or the headmen’s bill.
The headmen’s body requested the JHADC to refer the matter to a “select committee” as it was felt that “the bill required deeper introspection”.
The bill may be introduced during the ongoing Budget Session of the Assembly on March 25, the headmen’s body felt.
It also pointed out that it is mandatory to publish the content of the bill in an “appropriate manner”.
“Since the contents of the bill was not circulated to the media or made known to the public to seek views and opinions of all including the stakeholders, it should be referred to a select committee,” spokesperson of the organization Erwin K Sutnga said.
