Agartala: Eight-month-old Puja Dutta has been shifted to Agartala Central Jail along with her parents and grandparents who were convicted for life in a murder case.
Additional Sessions Judge of West Tripura District S.K. Majumder in a Fast Track Court on Friday sentenced Bipul Dutta, his wife Priya Deb, his father in-law Shibu Deb and mother-in-law Gita Deb for the murder of Bipul’s mother Lila Dutta of Pratapgarh under East Agartala Police Station on Feb 12 last year in an attempt to take hold of the entire movable and immovable properties.
According to police, entire property of the Dutta family was in the name of Lila Dutta. Her son Bipul had made several attempts to transfer everything in his name but he could not succeed.
His wife Priya and his in-laws had also exerted pressure on Lila Dutta to transfer the property but she did not agree.
Finally, they strangled Lila to death when she was sleeping in her house. Afterwards, the body was taken outside the house and set on fire pouring kerosene oil.
Bipul and others initially claimed that Lila Dutta had committed suicide. But a close relative of their family who was well-informed about the property issue registered a murder case against four of them. (UNI)
