SHILLONG: Ministers and State Government officials came together in mourning to extol the qualities of late Paty Ripple Kyndiah, a former Union Minister, during the condolence meeting held in the conference hall of Main Secretariat, here on Saturday afternoon.
A State funeral function for the departed leader will be held at St. Anthony’s Ground, Don Bosco at 2 PM on Sunday.
The meeting, chaired by Deputy Chief Minister RC Laloo, placed on record a deep sense of loss over the demise of Kyndiah and also resolved to convey a condolence message to the bereaved family. The meeting also observed two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
Addressing the meeting, Laloo recalled how Late Kyndiah always had the courage of conviction and purpose in life that made him go ahead with his decisions.
He also said that he learned a lot from him in his political career, adding that it was through the counsel of Late Kyndiah that he was able to come back to the political circles after a long gap of 10 years.
Chief Adviser to the Government, DD Lapang called Late Kyndiah “a stalwart of the State and the nation, who never surrendered to problems and challenges”. Lapang also spoke of Kyndiah’s successes and achievements in his long political career.
Home Minister Roshan Warjri said that she had the opportunity of being associated with Late Kyndiah since her college days when he was a member of APHLC and recalled how as one of the leaders of Hill State Movement he had played a key role in mobilizing volunteers.
Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Zenith Sangma spoke of his association with the late leader as president of the State Youth Congress and called him his “mentor”, adding that his demise is a great loss to the State and the Nation.
Chief Secretary PBO Warjri expressed his condolences on behalf of all the officers and staff of the Government of Meghalaya and said that it had been a great opportunity to work with such a stalwart.
Earlier, Principal Secretary, Mining & Geology Y. Tsering, who had worked as a private secretary to Late Kyndiah when he was the Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, said that he was a man of discipline and recalled the concern he had for the North East as a Union minister.
The condolence meeting was also attended by Power Minister, Clement Marak, Chairperson, Meghalaya Resource Mobilization & Employment Generation Council, Dikkanchi D. Shira, other State officials and government employees.
