SHILLONG: Following cases of alleged fake encounters coming to fore in Garo Hills, the banned militant outfit GNLA has adopted five resolutions against such encounters.
In a statement issued on Monday, joint publicity secretary of the GNLA, Garo Mandei Ch Marak said that as per the first resolution which was adopted in the emergent meeting of GNLA, in future, if police kill an innocent person, the MLA of that particular constituency shall pay Rs 7 (seven) lakh to the family members or the relatives of the victim.
As per the second resolution, the local MLA shall file an FIR and must bear all the court’s expenses of the victim’s family/relatives.
The third resolution says that the MLA himself shall institute a magisterial or judicial enquiry into the “fake encounters” that take place in his constituency.
The fourth resolution said that compensation must be paid to the family/relatives of the victim within 15 days after the fake encounter.
The fifth resolution says that if any MLA does not conform to the resolutions, the GNLA will attack the family members of the legislator besides burning down his residence and property.
The outfit further said that the “erring MLA” and his family won’t be permitted entry to Garo Hills.
