NONGPOH: After a long wait, the wages of the casual workers of the Health Department in Ri Bhoi were finally released by the Directorate of Health, Shillong.
The 101 casual workers who had not received their wages for over eight months were compelled to agitate and seek support of pressure groups on the issue.
While the RBYF in March had registered strong resentment over the delay in the payment of wages of the workers, UDP legislator, Paul Lyngdoh had raised the matter during the last session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, representative of the casual workers, Franky Marwein and Kitbok M Sylliang thanked Health Minister AL Hek, UDP legislator, Paul Lyngdoh, leading NGOs and concerned departments for lending support to their cause.
