SHILLONG: The Shillong-Nongstoin-Tura road is nearing completion with over 85 per cent of the work already taken care of.
Informing this on Monday, Chief engineer, PWD (NH), L. Passah said that work on almost all the stretches save the one from 7th mile to Sohiong was complete.
The work along the 7th mile to Sohiong stretch is being delayed due to land acquisition hurdles in the area.
It may be mentioned that an amount of Rs 2158 crore has been released for the work along the 264.30 kilometer Shillong-Nongstoin-Tura road.
Reacting to a query, the official said that there would not be huge cost escalation despite the project being delayed by a year.
The project, once completed, would provide major relief to people travelling through Assam to reach Garo Hills. The project was mooted since the existing Shillong-Nongstoin-Tura highway was in a dilapidated condition despite the road being declared as a National Highway in 2004.
It may be mentioned that the project is being implemented by Hyderabad-based firm M/S BSC-C &C (JV).
