SHILLONG: The plea of mother of slain police officer PJ Marbaniang to the State police chief to provide her the preliminary investigation reports into her son’s death has fallen on deaf ears.
On January 23 night, the body of Marbaniang was found with bullet injuries.
Though police initially termed it as suicide, there was suspicion that it was a murder case since the incident happened a day after the police officer detained 32 trucks carrying coal illegally to Assam. Police subsequently registered a murder case.
In a letter addressed to Meghalaya DGP Rajiv Mehta, the mother of the police officer, Dorothy Marbaniang sought the inquiry report of senior police officer J Rymmai, and a copy of the postmortem conducted at Nongpoh. She submitted the letter in the later part of February.
Before the probe was handed over to Special Investigation Team which began its investigation on February 4, two internal probes were conducted by the police including the report by Rymmai.
The Government had given 90 days time for the SIT to complete the probe.
The letter said that family members would like to know the progress of the inquiry on the case.
The mother said that since the probe by Rymmai and the post-mortem reports were completed, the police can hand over the copies of the reports to the relatives
