UDP to take up ban on cow slaughter with Amit Shah today

SHILLONG:  The state BJP will raise the issue of deteriorating law and order situation in Ampati and other parts of Garo Hills before the BJP national president Amit Shah who will arrive here  on Wednesday morning .
A senior party leader said on Tuesday that BJP would raise the issue of indefinite bandh called by GNLA in Ampati which has caused immense hardships to the people and the perennial lawlessness in the entire Garo Hills due to the spurt in the violent activities of various militant groups.
The State unit would also raise the issue of infamous education scam which rocked the state few years back when the BJP leaders meet Shah to discuss the state’s political situation.
Besides, the state party unit would also discuss various  issues related to  the development of the state.
The BJP State General Secretary Dipayan Chakraborty has, meanwhile, informed that a memorandum will be submitted to Shah.
On the other hand, the UDP will raise the issue of ban on cow slaughter during its meeting with the BJP president.
Informing this, UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh said that the party will be raising the issue of militancy in the State, atrocities against the minorities and also the attack on the churches.
Soon after his arrival , Shah  will address the BJP workers  at State Convention Centre at 11.30 am.
The BJP chief is scheduled to land at ALG Helipad at 11 am.
After the programme at State Convention Centre, he would proceed to Hotel Polo Towers where he will meet political leaders of  various regional parties including  UDP, HSPDP and KHNAM.
He would also meet the prominent members  of Seng Khasi and Seng Raij  and leaders of non-tribal community .
Shah is also scheduled to meet KSU, FKJGP, CSWO and other civil society groups   followed by a meeting with church leaders and coal traders’ association.
The BJP chief would meet the farmers’ association and subsequently  he would also attend the  meeting of the office bearers  followed by  a separate meeting with the BJP core group.
On Thursday morning, he would is scheduled to meet the selected members of RSS before departing for  Itanagar.
Surprisingly,  media photographers are only allowed to be inside the hall till the felicitation programme. Besides, there are no press conferences or media interactions   organized unlike the previous occasions  where a media interaction is always organized when  prominent political leaders arrive here.
Sources, meanwhile, said that Shah wants to avoid the issues of  recent vandalization of  churches and the beef ban and this is probably the only reason that  Shah  wants to avoid  media interaction  during his long visit to North Eastern states.
Meanwhile, the State police have already made elaborative arrangements in view of the visit of  Shah  since the banned outfit, HNLC has called  a 12 hour bandh from 5 am on Wednesday  in the Khasi-Jaintia region protesting against the visit of  Shah.
