UDP to take up ban on cow slaughter with Amit Shah today
SHILLONG: The state BJP will raise the issue of deteriorating law and order situation in Ampati and other parts of Garo Hills before the BJP national president Amit Shah who will arrive here on Wednesday morning .
A senior party leader said on Tuesday that BJP would raise the issue of indefinite bandh called by GNLA in Ampati which has caused immense hardships to the people and the perennial lawlessness in the entire Garo Hills due to the spurt in the violent activities of various militant groups.
The State unit would also raise the issue of infamous education scam which rocked the state few years back when the BJP leaders meet Shah to discuss the state’s political situation.
Besides, the state party unit would also discuss various issues related to the development of the state.
The BJP State General Secretary Dipayan Chakraborty has, meanwhile, informed that a memorandum will be submitted to Shah.
On the other hand, the UDP will raise the issue of ban on cow slaughter during its meeting with the BJP president.
Informing this, UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh said that the party will be raising the issue of militancy in the State, atrocities against the minorities and also the attack on the churches.
Soon after his arrival , Shah will address the BJP workers at State Convention Centre at 11.30 am.
The BJP chief is scheduled to land at ALG Helipad at 11 am.
After the programme at State Convention Centre, he would proceed to Hotel Polo Towers where he will meet political leaders of various regional parties including UDP, HSPDP and KHNAM.
He would also meet the prominent members of Seng Khasi and Seng Raij and leaders of non-tribal community .
Shah is also scheduled to meet KSU, FKJGP, CSWO and other civil society groups followed by a meeting with church leaders and coal traders’ association.
The BJP chief would meet the farmers’ association and subsequently he would also attend the meeting of the office bearers followed by a separate meeting with the BJP core group.
On Thursday morning, he would is scheduled to meet the selected members of RSS before departing for Itanagar.
Surprisingly, media photographers are only allowed to be inside the hall till the felicitation programme. Besides, there are no press conferences or media interactions organized unlike the previous occasions where a media interaction is always organized when prominent political leaders arrive here.
Sources, meanwhile, said that Shah wants to avoid the issues of recent vandalization of churches and the beef ban and this is probably the only reason that Shah wants to avoid media interaction during his long visit to North Eastern states.
Meanwhile, the State police have already made elaborative arrangements in view of the visit of Shah since the banned outfit, HNLC has called a 12 hour bandh from 5 am on Wednesday in the Khasi-Jaintia region protesting against the visit of Shah.
