Minor attempts self-immolation
Mathura: A 14-year-old girl attempted suicide by setting herself on fire after she was allegedly gangraped by her uncle and four of his friends at Kosi Kalan area here, police said on Wednesday. The incident took place on Sunday when the Dalit girl’s parents had gone to work and her uncle identified as Sukhbir lured her to come along and locked her in a room, they said. Sukhbir along with four of his friends then gangraped the minor. on Tuesday, the girl poured kerosene and tried to set herself ablaze following which she received 70 per cent burn injuries, they said, adding, she was rushed to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital in a serious condition. Following a complaint filed by the girl’s father on Tuesday night, all the five accused have been arrested and will be produced before a court today, police said. Upon receiving information about the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police Manjil Saini and DIG Laxmi Singh met with the family and assured that the National Security Act will also be invoked in the case. PM condoles death of Indian pilgrims in mishap in Nepal
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed his deepest condolences to the family of the Indian pilgrims, who lost their lives in a bus accident in Nepal. At least 17 Indian pilgrims including nine women were killed and 28 others injured on Wednesday when a bus carrying them from Gujarat plunged some 100 metres from a mountain highway. “Very saddening news from Nepal. My thoughts are with the families of those who lost their lives in the bus accident at Naubise,” he said about the accident that took about place 75 kms east of Kathmandu. The bus with Indian number plate was carrying around 45 pilgrims from Gujarat who were returning to Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh after a pilgrimage to Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu. It plunged some 100 metre down from the hilly road at Naubise village in Dhading district, police said. 14 passengers died on the spot while three others succumbed to their injuries shortly after being taken to a nearby hospital. Nine women and eight men are among those killed. “A team from our Embassy in Nepal reached the spot within an hour of the accident to oversee rescue & relief operations. Embassy officials are present at every hospital where the injured are being treated & Embassy is taking care of the treatment,” the Prime Minister said in his tweet. The death toll might rise as the bus was trapped in a gorge like site and some passenger might have been trapped under the bus, police said. (PTI)
2youths shot as they protect sister against harassment
Biharsharif: A youth was killed while his brother was battling for life after being shot by miscreants when the duo tried to stop them from harassing their sister in a village in Nalanda district of Bihar. The incident happened at Siwanpur village in Noorsarai police station area on Tuesday night. While Gaya Gope died on the spot, his sibling Lalu Gope has been admitted to a government hospital and is stated to be in a critical condition. Biharsharif Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Law and Order (L&O) Sanjay Kumar said, “Miscreants led by Ashok Yadav and Pappu Yadav had indulged in eve-teasing in the village on Tuesday morning. Her brothers Gaya and Lalu opposed it and an argument took place over the incident.” “In revenge, Ashok and Pappu ambushed Gaya and Lalu while they were carrying food to their farm last night. They fired several rounds at the victims,” the DSP added. The police has registered an FIR in the incident and a manhunt has been launched to nab the assailants who fled after the incident. The body has been sent for postmortem. (PTI)
