Drill for disaster preparedness in Guwahati

Guwahati: The Assam government on Tuesday conducted a mock drill in the state Secretariat Complex to promote disaster preparedness, mitigation and response.
The drill was conducted by the Secretariat Administration Department (SAD) at Block D and E and it was supported and coordinated by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), an official release said. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Civil Defence, 108 Ambulance Service. The police and fire and emergency services of the state government were also involved in the drill. The drill started at 11 AM with blowing of siren, enacting a scene of earthquake, followed by fire.
All people were evacuated and injured participants were given first aid treatment before being shifted by 108 ambulances for further medication.  The drill also witnessed the use of hydraulic platform to evacuate trapped victims, besides ropeways by NDRF, the release added. (PTI)
