New Delhi: Opposition parties on Tuesday demanded that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal step down owning “moral responsibility” after a Bihar University told Delhi High Court that provisional certificate of Law Minister in his government Jitender Singh Tomar is “fabricated”.
Congress also sought immediate dismissal of Tomar, both as a Minister and MLA, while the BJP slammed Aam Aadmi Party saying those who boasted of “politics of ethics” have been “unmasked”.
Tomar has been facing charges that academic certificate he submitted while filing nomination for assembly polls held in February this year were fake.
“Even after this being pointed out to him (Kejriwal), why the Law Minister was made to continue? So, we demand Arvind Kejriwal should take moral responsibility, step down and the Law Minister should be sacked and seat should be vacated.
“Let people decide who should be their representative in the assembly from that particular assembly constituency area (represented by Tomar),” Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken reacted.
Senior Congress leader PC Chacko said that the episode was a “matter of shame” for Delhi Government.
“Now that the court reference decision has come, the Chief Minister should take his resignation. He should be dismissed from the Government if not otherwise. So, I think this should not be delayed at all. It is a shame on the Government of Delhi,” Chacko added.
The BJP taunted the AAP, saying the Law Minister himself has shown how law is being toyed with.
“Whatever degrees were submitted (by Tomar), were fake.”
“The Law Minister himself has shown how law is being toyed with. Those people who spoke about ethics in politics have been unmasked.”
“People of Delhi want answers from AAP for the way you reached here (gained power) by making false promises,” BJP spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi said.
Tilak Manjhi Bhagalpur University in Bihar, where Tomar claimed to have completed his law education, told the High Court yesterday that the serial number of the provisional certificate in its record showed name of some other person and not that of Tomar. (PTI)
