Pop star Katy Perry has seemingly showed support for Taiwan’s full independence by wearing a sunflower-studded dress and a cape that looked exactly the same as the controversial Taiwan flag at her Taipei concert.
While the flag represents a political symbol for an independent Taiwan, the sunflower dress was claimed to be a symbol of Taiwan’s 2014 Sunflower Student Movement.
Perry, 30, might have made a political statement over conflict between China and Taiwan, reported Aceshowbiz.
However, some said that the singer of “The One That Got Away” might not have intentionally made the political statement.
“I don’t even know how to speak Mandarin,” Perry said to the audience ahead of the concert.
“That’s what you speak, right?” In addition, Perry wore the specific sunflower dress during her “Prismatic” tour.
Regarding the fact whether Perry intentionally wore the political imagery or simply honoured the audience, both the singer and her representative have not commented on this issue as yet and have chosen to remain numb over this. (PTI)
