Fourteen injured in grenade attack in Srinagar

Srinagar: At least 14 civilians, including two minor girls, were injured on Saturday in a grenade attack by militants at a busy market in Shopian district of south Kashmir, police said. The ultras hurled the grenade at a police party in main town market of Shopian, 52 kms from here. The grenade missed the intended target and exploded in a crowded place, resulting in injuries to 14 people, a police official said. The injured, including two minor girls, have been rushed to a local hospital. (PTI)

MP Dairy Federation’s Sanchi to send milk powder to Nepal

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Dugdha Mahasangh will send its Sanchi milk packets to quake-torn Nepal following a request from the Centre. “Madhya Pradesh Dugdha Mahasangh has received a letter to supply milk powder to quake-hit Nepal from the Centre. The Federation’s managing director has given consent for the same at a meeting in New Delhi,” Federation spokesperson said today. Besides, the Federation will also supply 450 MT whole (pure) milk powder to the country’s defence forces. It has also received an order to supply 33 MT whole milk powder and 10,000 kg pure ghee from Indo-Tibet Border Police, he added. Through efforts of Diary Federation, order for supply of 400 MT white butter has been received by Bhopal and Ujjain diary federations from Haryana. Meanwhile, demand for Sanchi ghee and butter in the state is constantly rising and in the last four months, sale of Sanchi ghee rose from 1100 MT to 1600 MT, the spokesman said. Sale of butter from Sanchi parlours in the state has gone up to 27 tonnes from 10 tonnes, he added, adding, milk collection in the state has increased by 36 per cent, up from target of 26 per cent. The Federation has signed an agreement with Rajya Shiksha Kendra for supplying milk and milk products to Kasturba Gandhi Residential Girls Hostels, he added. (PTI)

5 arrested in woman forest officer attack case

Dehradun: Five persons including the main accused in the alleged attack on a woman forest officer and her team for trying to stop illegal mining in Rampur area of Nainital district, have been arrested, police said on Saturday. The main accused identified as Kulwinder Singh Kinda was arrested yesterday by a joint team of the police and Special Operations Group from his home at Bannakhedi, Senior Sub-Inspector of Ramnagar police station Mohan Chandra Pandey said. Four others have also been arrested in this connection, he added. Kalyani, a trainee Indian Forest Services officer posted at Tarai West forest division, in a complaint on May 1 said that she along with her team reached near Dabka river in Baintkhedi area on April 29 to prevent illegal mining, police said. “As they initiated seizing of a JCB machine and some other vehicles involved in the illegal work, a large number of people gathered there and started protesting. They misbehaved with her, attacked their vehicles with canes and pelted stones,” police said, adding that they managed to leave from there somehow. On her complaint, a case was registered under relevant sections of the IPC against District Panchayat member of Bazpur in Udham Singh Nagar district, Kulvinder Singh Kinda and 50 other unidentified persons. Haryana Cabinet gives nod to extension of Metro project

Chandigarh:  The Haryana Government on Saturday approved the extension of Metro project from from YMCA Chowk in Faridabad to Ballabgarh and also decided to increase its contribution from Rs 468.20 crore to Rs 569.80 crore. The state Cabinet took the decision today during a meeting here headed by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, an official release said. The project cost has been revised from Rs 564 crore to Rs 678 crore due to price escalation and increase in land cost, the release stated. It will be implemented on the funding pattern adopted in the case of Gurgaon, Faridabad and Bahadurgarh DMRC Metro extensions will be financed by way of Government of Haryana and Government of India in the ratio of 80:20.The route length of this extended project is 3.205 km and it will have two stations at NCB Colony and Ballabgarh. The daily ridership has been projected at 0.37 lakh in 2017-18. While the foundation stone of the project was laid on June 22,2014, it is likely to be completed by December 2017, nine months more than its original completion date of March 2017. (PTI)

Two youths electrocuted in Kashmir

Srinagar: Two youths were electrocuted on Saturday when a high voltage electricity transmission line snapped and fell on them in Budgam district of central Kashmir, police said. Aijaz Ahmad Bhat (30) and Irfan Ahmad Lone (20) died after they came in contact with the 440 KV transmission line at Pohru, 13 km from here, a police official said. The transmission line got snapped accidentally, he said. A police team has rushed to the scene and further details are awaited, the official said. (PTI)
