 Malviya’s grandson among four injured in mishap
Bhadohi (UP): Four persons, including Girdhar Malviya, grandson of BHU founder Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya and his wife, were on Tuesday injured when the car in which they were travelling fell into a road side ditch here. Police said the incident took place this afternoon when Girdhar and his wife were travelling with their son and another person to Varanasi from Allahabad. Their car lost control and after hitting a bike, fell into a 10-feet deep ditch in Teori village in Aurai area here, police said. The injured were rushed to the hospital, where treatment is underway, police said, adding, the matter is being probed. Girdhar Malviya was a proposer of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, when he filed nominations for Varanasi Lok Sabha seat last year. (PTI)
Madras HC judge for CBI probe into qualification of colleague
Chennai:  Madras High Court judge, Justice C S Karnan, whose alleged intemperate remarks against Chief Justice S K Kaul are before the Supreme Court in a case, on Tuesday triggered another row by seeking a CBI probe into educational qualification of brother judge Justice V Dhanapalan and a report within three months. In his letter to a Joint Director of CBI, he refers to the earlier letters and orders passed by him suo motu with regard to the selection of Junior Divisional officers post for which an interview was conducted by five judges of the High Court including Justice Dhanapalan, and made same allegations against him regarding his educational qualifications. Justice Karnan alleged that Justice Dhanapalan had produced B L Degree Course certificate stating that he had studied Law in a regular course and also enrolled as an advocate at Bar Council of Tamil Nadu in 1983. Justice Dhanapalan could not be reached for his comments. The Madras High Court registry had yesterday complained to the Supreme Court against Justice Karnan for making “intemperate observations” about the role and functioning of its Chief Justice S K Kaul. In the plea which came for hearing before a bench headed by Chief Justice H L Dattu, the High Court registry said that the judge made various intemperate observations against certain fellow judges as well as the Chief Justice of the high court. Stating that as the Supreme Court was now seized of the matter, Justice Karnan said he was duty bound to disclose the facts of the case with relevant records before the apex court. He requested the Joint Director, CBI, Chennai to conduct a comprehensive inquiry to determine the veracity of his charges to prove his case before the apex court and before the Madras High Court Registry. A copy of Justice Karnan’s letter was made available to the press. (PTI)
 1 dead, 2 hurt in firing in  marriage party
Meerut: One person died, while two others were injured when miscreants allegedly opened fire at a wedding ceremony under Brihampuri police station area, police said on Tuesday. The incident occurred on Monday when three persons identified as – Mehraj, Khilafat and Tarikat – along with some other people reached the wedding of the bride, Sahista, and opened fire, district police spokesperson said. While one died on the spot, Hasin (15) and bride’ brother Arif (28) were injured, he said, adding the injured have been hospitalised. According to police, an old enmity between the families of the victims and accused may have been the reason behind the incident. Arif, who is one of the witness in a two-year-old murder case, was allegedly being pressurised by the accused to come to a settlement in the issue, police said, adding there could be a relation between the two incidents. Following a complaint lodged by the Arif’s family, a case has been registered against 11 people including Mehraj, Khilafat and Tarikat, police said, adding search is on to nab the accused. (PTI)
 No toilet at home: Bihar woman divorces husband
Patna: A woman in a Bihar village has divorced her husband for not constructing a toilet at their house, officials said Tuesday.Sunita Devi, a resident of Paharpur village in Vaishali district, divorced her husband in village panchayat after he failed to build a toilet despite repeated assurances.Interestingly, Paharpur village was declared a ‘nirmal-gram’ by the government.”I was fed up with my husband for not building a toilet and was forced to leave him,” Sunita told IANS by telephone.”I was upset over being forced to make way to an open field every day under the cover of darkness to defecate. Even owner of the land used to abuse and humiliate me repeatedly,” Sunita said.”For the last four years, I have been requesting my husband to construct the toilet. But he always ignored it and advised me to seek help of my parents for it,” Sunita said.Bihar has a population of over 105 million, of which 21.9 million lack toilet facilities. (IANS)
