Visiting My Police Station initiative

SHILLONG: In a bid to remove the fear and concerns from the minds of the youth associated with a visit to the police station, Shillong Police while continuing with its ‘Safe-Secure-Shillong’ initiative has flagged off a new programme called ‘Visiting My Police Station’.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police M. Kharkrang informed that under the new programme, invitation will be sent to all schools and colleges in the city to organize a visit of the students to a police station.
“The aim is to remove the fear of a police station from the mind of the youths and to inculcate in them the idea that police stations are not meant to deal with criminals only but is also a service delivery centre,” he said.
According to Kharkrang, the students will learn about the functioning of a police station and understand that it is meant to serve the public; besides it will also make the police personnel at the Thana level more people friendly.
The programme was launched on Tuesday with Class XII students of two schools – Jail Road Govt. Girl’s Hr. Sec. School and Jail Road Govt. Boy’s Hr. Sec. School – paying a visit to the Sadar police station to collect first hand information on the functioning of the Police Station, the Traffic Branch, the Women Police Station and the Police Control Room.
The students also interacted with police officials during their visit to the Sadar police station.
