Bandh, protests in Assam on saperate issues

Guwahati: A bandh and demonstrations by different groups on issues ranging from separate state demand to non-payment of salaries, were stayed out across Assam on Monday.
An All Koch-Rajbonshi Students Union (AKRSU)-sponsored 12-hour Assam bandh hit life in parts of western Assam, especially in Bongaigaon.
Business establishments and educational institutions remained closed and vehicles also remained off the roads.
The AKRSU bandh was called in support of the organization’s demand for ST status for the community and a separate Kamatapur state.
In Guwahati, protests were caried by different organizations in support of their various demands.
The youth wing of BJP, BJYM, staged a demonstration in front of Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) office alleging irregularities in the merit list of APSC examination, which was published recently.
The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) gheraoed the office of Power Grid, demanding better compensation against land acquisition done by the Power Grid.
Computer teachers under Sarba Siksha Abhiyan staged a separate demonstration, demanding payment of their salaries, which has remained unpaid for several months.
In neighbouring Sonapur, people of about 10 villages blocked railway tracks, demanding a level railway crossing for the area. (UNI)
