Telangana man arrested for rape, murder of daughter
Hyderabad: Police in Telangana have solved the mystery behind rape and murder of a minor girl with the arrest of her father, who committed the beastly act in an inebriated condition. Meghawat Kamal (38) tried to mislead police by lying that some unidentified people attacked him, kidnapped his 15-year-old daughter, gang raped and murdered her. He even inflicted an injury on his forehead to convince police.The incident occured on May 21 night near Ijrachittampalli near Vikarabad in Ranga Reddy district, about 75 km from here. Police, who had picked up few autorickshaw drivers on suspicion, finally cracked the case with the arrest of Kamal, a tribal.Ranga Reddy district Superintendent of Police M. Srinivas told reporters at Vikarabad on Sunday that the contradictory statements and the body language of Kamal raised doubts and during the questioning he confessed.Police arrested him after scanning the CCTV images at Vikarabad railway station and based on other evidence.Simran, a student of Class 8, came to her relatives in HYderabad for summer holidays. She was picked by her father. They boarded a train to Vikarabad and after alighting at the railway station, he took her on his motorbike.Police said en route to the village, the man stopped at a liquor shop and consumed liquor. After a few minutes, he stopped the two-wheeler at an isolated place and raped her. (IANS)
Prez extends Independence Day greetings to Jordan
New Delhi:  President Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday extended his greetings to the King and people of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on the eve of their Independence Day. “On behalf of the government, the people of India and on my own behalf, I extend my warm greetings and felicitations to you and to the friendly people of Jordan on the occasion of the Independence Day of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan,” Mukherjee said. He said that India and Jordan have traditionally enjoyed cordial and friendly relations, which have expanded in all fields. “I am confident that the bonds of friendship between our peoples will be further strengthened to our mutual benefit in the years to come. “Please accept, Your Majesty, my personal good wishes for your health and well-being, as well as for the continued progress and prosperity of the friendly people of Jordan,” the President was quoted as saying in an official release. Three TMC workers injured in factional fight
Jamuria (WB): Three Trinamool Congress workers were today injured when a clash broke between two groups of the party at Jamuria during which bombs were hurled, police said. Party Jamuria block president Purnosashi Mondal said the clash took place when he opposed the inauguration of a party office here, built without his permission by a group of TMC workers opposed to him. Faced with resistance from him, the opposing group threw bombs at him, which injured the three party workers, Mandal claimed. He alleged that police lathicharged the party workers. The police confirmed the clash but denied any lathicharge. The police said the mob was dispersed by it and picket posted in view of the tension after the clash. One of the injured was rushed to a hospital at Asansol, about 25 km away, and the other two were allowed to go after first aid at the local health centre, the police added. (PTI)
