Dorbar ask localities to remain closed on May 30

SHILLONG: The executive committee of the Laitumkhrah Dorbar Shnong Pyllun has decided to take part in the Dorbar ka Bri u Hynniewtrep to be held on May 30 at Polo Grounds and has asked all localities in Laitumkhrah to remain closed from the morning till the end of the Dorbar on the said day.
The Dorbar has further asked residents of Laitumkhrah going to the meeting to gather at Laitumkhrah Police Point at 9.30 am and join in a silent march towards Polo Grounds.
The Dorbar Shnong of Kench’s Trace Oxford has taken a decision that all residents of the Dorbar Shnong will attend the rally called by the Synjuk Ki Rangbah at Polo Ground on May 30.
The Dorbar Shnong of Umsohsun has decided to request all shops and business establishment in the locality to remain close on May 30 to enable residents of the locality and others to attend the said meeting.
No night road blockade on May 30
Meanwhile, the proscribed HNLC has informed that there will be no night road blockade on May 30 in view of the upcoming meeting of the Dorbar ka Bri u Hynniewtrep organised by the Synjuk Ki Rangbah Shnong.
Consultative meeting discusses means to save Myntdu river

JOWAI: A consultative meeting on River Myntdu was held at the District Library Auditorium, Mynthong, Jowai, on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner P.S. Dkhar.
The meeting, organized by the West Jaintia Hills district administration, was attended by district officials, senior citizens, civil society members, Rangbah Shnong and leaders of different localities, NGOs, environmentalists and others.
The participants suggested the need to organize awareness programmes in every locality and school on the importance of good quality water and keeping the river clean, to promote participation in cleaning the river, construction of check dams in the drains to the stop flow of dirt to the river and construction of proper waste disposal.
Workshop on adolescence in city

SHILLONG: The Department of Health & Family Welfare along with the National Health Mission (NHM) organized a State-level workshop-cum-health exhibition on adolescence at U Soso Tham Auditorium here on Tuesday to create awareness on various aspects of adolescence.
Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, Addl. Chief Secretary Y. Tsering said that 21% of the total population comes from the age group of 10-19 years and that their healthy living and well being is the most important issue that needs to be addressed.
He also said the greatest concern that families and schools faced today is the change of lifestyle amongst this age group which has hampered their normal growth.
The inaugural function was followed by a review cum workshop on Weekly Iron Folic Supplementation Programme (WIFS) for District Officials wherein various problems relating to adolescents like Nutritional Anaemia Among Adolescents were discussed followed by a seminar on ‘What We Need To Know About Our Growing Up kids’ for stakeholders.
Foul play suspected over death

SHILLONG: A woman identified as Minta Devi lodged a complaint that on April 27 this year, a woman, Radha Rai informed her that the husband of the complainant Rajiv Singh (a driver) had met with an accident at Laitkor (EKH) and was admitted at Woodland Hospital.
At around 1 am, the complainant visited Woodland Hospital to see her husband but was not allowed and at around 8.30 am, her husband succumbed to his injuries. When the complainant and her relatives asked for the body, Radha Rai and one Vivek (a defence personnel) did not allow them to collect the body.
Further, Radha Rai and Vivek obtained PM exemption order from the concerned authorities and performed the last rites. The complainant suspected foul play in the death of her husband.
