Mizo Police seize over 1 lakh Methamphetamine tab, 8 arrested
Aizawl: Officers of the special narcotics cell of Mizoram Police have seized 1,22,800 tablets of Methamphetamine during the past one week, Superintrndent of Police, CID (Crime) Lallianmawia said on Tuesday. Lallianmawia said 14,000 tablets of Methamphetamine were seized from a hotel in Aizawl on Wednesday last, while 58,800 tablets were seized from Thingdawl village at the Mizoram-Assam border Kolasib district on Friday last. He said 50,000 tablets were again seized last night from Zemabawk near Aizawl. The estimated worth of the seized contraband was at least Rs 3.6 crore, he said adding eight persons including three Myanmarese nationals and one woman were arrested in connection with the seizures and were booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Ship building facilities to come up in Guwahati, Kandla, Andaman
New Delhi: Ship building and repairing facilities will soon be created in Guwahati, Kandla and Adaman and Nicobar, Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said here on Tuesday. Addressing a national conference on inland waterways here, Mr Gadkari said, “Government plans to establish facilities for ship-building and ship-repairing at the above three places in near future”. As many 300 light houses and 1,100 islands would be developed as tourist hubs. He also hoped that the Bill for declaration of 101 waterways as National Waterways would be passed in the forthcoming Monsoon session of Parliament. (UNI)
EPF offices in NE states ungraded
New Delhi: The Employees Provident Fund Organisation has upgraded the District Offices Services Centres in Gangtok, Imphal, Aizwal, Itanagar and Dimapur to special state offices. The Special State Office shall be headed by an Assistant Commissioner-level officer and would have an Enforcement Officer and other supporting staff, a Labour Ministry spokesman said. The special state offices would focus on works like compliance monitoring, grievance handling, claims scanning and forwarding. This shall be of great convenience to EPF members belonging to states of Sikkim, Manipur, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland for availing EPF-related services, the spokesman said. (UNI)
Assam Rifles nabs NSCN-K cadre, linkman in Nagaland
Kohima: The Assam Rifles personnel have apprehended two NSCN(K) cadres from separate places in the state. A cadre was arrested along with incriminating documents from the district headquarters in Longleng Town while another linkman of NSCN-K was nabbed in Mokokchung recently. A statement issued by the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (North) on Tuesdaya, it was said the 31st Battalion Assam Rifles during an operation on May 21 last, apprehended one self-styled Lieutenant Yonkai Phom alias P Aboi Phom. Later, the apprehended cadre was handed over to Longleng Police Station. In another operation on May 28, the troops nabbed one ground-worker of the insurgent group with arms from Sewak Gate in Mokokchung town. On specific input, a team swung into action and cordoned off the area and searched a house that resulted in apprehension of Yeshizulu Jamir, the linkman of NSCN (K). The team also recovered point 22 pistol with magazine. The apprehended cadre is in the custody of Mokokchung Police Station, the statement said. (UNI)
