SHILLONG: HSPDP vice-president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit has justified his party’s decision to attend Wednesday’s all-party meeting convened by Chief Minister Mukul Sangma saying that the party wants to see that a strong and effective legislation is put in place to empower Dorbar Shnong.
“We have no problem who comes up with the legislation whether it is Autonomous District Council (ADCs) or State Government as long as it protects the prevailing customs and practices of the traditional bodies which have been in existence since time immemorial,” Basaiawmoit said in a statement here on Thursday.
He also made it clear that the party would not accept the KHAD (Village Administration) Bill, 2015 unless the two deleted sections are incorporated.
“There was an attempt on the part of the media to give wrong reports over the decisions  to attend the meeting. I want to clarify that the statement made by the party joint secretary Witting Mawsor was specific on the stand of the party on this issue,” he said.
It may be mentioned here that except the HSPDP, all other Opposition parties skipped Wednesday’s meeting.
