SC respite for one resident

SHILLONG: In a relief to one of the residents residing along the Wahumkhrah river, the Supreme Court on Thursday stayed an earlier order of the Division Bench of High Court of Meghalaya to carry out demolition of his building.
The petitioner Rana Bhushan Deb had earlier approached the High Court against the demolition order of MUDA , but the Court dismissed the petition and gave time till September 15 ( for MUDA to carry out demolition of the building of Deb.
Unlike other petitioners, who approached the lower court here, Deb sought the intervention of Supreme Court by filing a special leave petition and the Court on Thursday stayed the order of the Division Bench of the High Court.
Earlier, a group of petitioners filed the case in the lower court securing a stay till September 10, but they are in trouble as the single bench of the High Court of Meghalaya has stayed the order of lower court citing that they can only approach Supreme Court as per the Act of National Green Tribunal.
