UDP, NPP announce first list of candidates

SHILLONG/ TURA: Both the UDP and the NPP on Friday released the first list of candidates to contest the GHADC polls.
While UDP has announced the names of nine candidates so far, the Nationalist Peoples’ Party of Purno A. Sangma has released its first list of names to contest in twenty constituencies.
UDP has decided to field Penindro M Sangma from Siju Rongara constituency while Plebith Sangma will contest the election from Wagesik.
Tengsil W Momin will contest the   elections from Bolsrong while Anand M Marak will contest the election from Kharkutta constituency.
Silman M Marak will contest the election from Samanda, Mahamsing M Sangma will contest from Williamnagar and Henen R Sangma will contest the election from Darugre.
Another candidate Butther M Sangma will contest the election from Amongpara while Tinash Momin will contest the election on UDP ticket from Tura constituency.
Meanwhile, the NPP list included the names of five sitting MDCs – sitting MDC from Nogorpara and party president P.A. Sangma’s nephew Boston Marak, Dipul R Marak from Rochonpara, Roynath D Sangma from Batabari, Sukharam K Sangma from Rongrong and Denang T Sangma from Williamnagar.
The party has put up retired veterinary officer Dr. Harvey Jimmy M Momin for the Tura MDC seat and Albinush R Marak to take on sitting Congress CEM Alphonse A Sangma from Siju.
The NPP has also fielded Sengnal N Sangma to take on sitting Wagesik MDC Frederson Sangma who is currently trying to shake off allegations of widespread corruption of his MDC schemes running into over 71 lakh rupees in which money was withdrawn by his family members even though the schemes were allegedly not implemented.
The other candidates of the NPP cleared to contest the upcoming polls include Nilath S Marak from Silkigre, Pangrak Ch Sangma from Rongrikimgre, Sengchim N Sangma from Gasuapara, Meckenson Ch Marak from Babelapara, Stiner R Marak from Amongpara, Benedict R Marak from Raksamgre, Grahambel A Sangma from Jengjal, Rakman Ch Marak from Bolsong, Dolly K Sangma from Damas, Edbirth N Marak from Kharkutta, Brilliant R Sangma from Samanda and Methrinson G Momin from Darugre.
