New York: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the headquarters of social media giant Facebook on September 27 and is also expected to go to Googleplex, the campus of tech giant Google.
Modi on his second visit to the US, will be visiting the headquarters of Facebook in Silicon Valley’s Menlo Park for a townhall Q&A, the company’s founder Mark Zuckerberg announced today.
“I’m excited to announce that Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India will be visiting Facebook HQ later this month for a Townhall Q&A,” Zuckerberg said in a Facebook post.
Modi tweeted to confirm the visit.
“I thank Mark Zuckerberg for the invite to visit @facebook HQ & for the Townhall Q&A at 10 PM IST on 27th September.” During the visit, Modi and Zuckerberg will discuss how communities can work together to address social and economic challenges.
The Prime Minister invited questions for the session and tweeted, “The Townhall Q&A will be incomplete without your participation. Share Qs on FB or on ‘Narendra Modi Mobile App’.
” Modi is also expected to visit Google and the factory floor of auto major Tesla in Fremont, both in Silicon Valley, but those visits are yet to be confirmed.
Zuckerberg asked Facebook users to send in their questions for the session and said, “Please ask them in the comments below (the post) and we’ll try to get to as many as possible.”
The live video of the session will be available on Zuckerberg’s Facebook page and also on PM Modi’s official page in the social media website.
Recalling his meeting with Prime Minister Modi in India last year, the Facebook CEO wrote,”…it’s an honor to have the chance to host him here at Facebook.” India has the largest Facebook userbase outside the US.
In June, the company had said 125 million users of its global base of 1.44 billion come from India. Last year, Zuckerberg had made his maiden trip to India.
The young billionaire had called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss digital expansion in the country. (PTI)
