SHILLONG: Following the passing of the KHAD (Appointment and Succession of Chiefs & Headmen) Rules, 2015, the Syiem of Mylliem along with the KHADC Executive Committee is all set to distribute fresh “sanad” (appointment letters) to the Rangbah Shnong of the 30 Dorbar Shnong within Shillong and its outskirts during a function at Shillong Polytechnic on Tuesday.
Following the judgment of the Meghalaya High Court on December 10 last year, the Rangbah Shnong had been barred from issuing any kind of certificates unless empowered by law.
But the passing of the KHADC (Appointment and Succession of Chiefs and Headmen) Rules, 2015, which empowers the traditional institutions in accordance with the United Khasi-Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District (Appointment and Succession of Chiefs and Headmen) Act, 1959, has paved way for the traditional heads including Rangbah Shnong to carry out their day-to-day functions as before.
It may be mentioned that the rules passed by the KHADC had also been published in the Meghalaya Gazette.
During the function to be held at Shillong Polytechnic, the distribution of the “Sanad” would be first made to Rangbah Shnong of the localities falling under the umbrella Synjuk ki Durbar Shnong Pynthorumkhrah-Mawpat to be followed by the Rangbah Shnong who fall under the Synjuk Ki Nongsynshar Shnong Shilliang Umkhen and finally to the Rangbah Shnong of the Dorbar Shnong falling under the Mawlai Town Durbar (MTD).
Around 100 Dorbar Shnong are expected to attend the peaceful march
Meanwhile, the Synjuk Ki Nongsynshar Shnong Ka Bri U Hynñiewtrep (SKNSKBH) informed that representatives from 100 Dorbar Shnong from Shillong and its outskirts are expected to attend the peaceful march along the road surrounding the Raj Bhavan on September 16 in protest against the delay to approve the Village Administration Bills (VABs) of both the KHADC and JHADC by Governor V Shanmuganathan.
Informing this here on Monday, SKNSKBH general secretary RL Blah said representatives of Dorbar Shnong from the rural areas have not been invited in the first protest matrch.
“We will definitely involve the Dorbar Shnong from the rural areas in our future protests if the Governor remains indifferent to the demand of the Synjuk to approve the Bill passed by the two Councils,” Blah said.
