SHILLONG: The Electricity Regulatory Commission of Meghalaya has been awarded as the most progressive state power board among the Northeastern states recently.
Informing this here on Tuesday, Meghalaya State Electricity Regulatory Commission Chairman Anand Kumar said that the award ceremony was organized at Goa by the Independent Power Producers Association and the panel which selected Meghalaya for the award comprised of several former power secretaries and regulators.
Assam got the second position, he said.

(Contd. from P-1) state, Kumar asserted that Meghalaya is now in a comfortable position and added sixty percent of the state’s demand is met by the State’s own generation.
“My job is to ensure 24 x7 power supply to customers and I am quite confident that there has been no scheduled power cut in Meghalaya in the last couple of years,” he said.
When asked about the erratic power supply in rural areas of the state, he said that Meghalaya State Electricity Regulatory Commission has framed rules to tackle this problem.
