SHILLONG: The FKJGP has opposed the participation of non- tribals in the GHADC polls.
In a statement issued to the press, FKJGP president Joe Marwein said that the participation of non- tribals by contesting the polls or casting their votes goes against the very spirit of the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution.
“The very purpose of the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution is to protect the indigenous people,” Marwein said, while indicating the irony of parties fielding non-tribals to contest the GHADC polls.
Both the Congress and NPP have already fielded non-indigenous candidates to contest the GHADC polls. There are also a few non-tribals contesting the polls as Independents.
