164 candidates to contest GHADC polls

TURA: With the scrutiny of nomination papers to the upcoming GHADC elections finally over, a total of 164 candidates have been cleared to contest the polls slated for October 12.
The scrutiny of the candidates’ nomination papers were done on Monday from 3 pm onwards.
Of the total of 88 aspiring candidates who filed their nominations in West Garo Hills, all have been cleared to contest and will now vie for the 13 MDC seats in the district.
In other districts as well the nomination papers of all the candidates were found to be in order and none were rejected. In South Garo Hills, altogether 25 candidates will be contesting for the 5 GHADC seats while in North Garo Hills a total of 19 candidates are contesting for 4 seats.
In South West Garo Hills 18 candidates will vie for 4 seats while in East Garo Hills 14 candidates will contest for the 3 MDC seats.
There was no report about any of the candidates withdrawing from the elections.
