Former driver of Nongstoin district judge gets bail

SHILLONG: The former driver of the District Judge, Nongstoin who was accused of threatening a staff of Judge was released on bail by the High Court of Meghalaya on Thursday.
The accused, Bankupar L Mawnai, was arrested on August 27 and had been in police custody since then.
During the hearing, the counsel for the petitioner submitted before the court that there is no evidence available that the accused really made the threat.
On perusal of the case diary, the High Court observed that the IO had noted the contents of the message of the accused.
“It also appears from the CD that the complainant had given a statement that the message was not meant for her but it meant for the District Judge, Nongstoin. It is worth mentioning that the accused was also a driver in the Office of the District Judge, Nongstoin, but was sacked from the job by the District Judge, Nongstoin,” the court order said. The court later allowed the accused to go on bail in connection for a sum of Rs. 15,000 with one surety of like amount subject to the satisfaction of the CJM Nongstoin, with several conditions.
