Shillong: The Meghalaya Athletics Association which took part in the 27th East Zone Junior Athletics held in Deoghar Jharkhand on September 29 and 30 bagged 2 Gold, 1 Silver and Bronze each in the U-16 and U-20 boys category. Dising Phawa won 2 Gold medals in U-20 800mts. and 1500 mts. Shynsharlang Wahlang won a Silver medal in the U-16 2000 mts. and Requestme Pyrtuh won a Bronze medal in U-16 800mts. The association expresses its sincere thanks to Director of Sports F.M.Dopth, President Dr. M. Ampareen Lyngdoh for providing financial assistance and coach Daisy Marwein, who provided training to these young athletes and her efforts yielded good result.
Shillong Cricket Association elects office bearers for 2015-18
Shillong: The General Body Meeting of Shillong Cricket Association held on Saturday elected the following office bearers for the term 2015-18. For the first time the election was done by secret ballots. Former General Secretary SCA R. Dkhar, conducted the proceedings as Returning Officer. 35 affiliated clubs out of 51 clubs participated in the election process. Following are the office bearers of SCA for 2015 – 2018. 1. President: Naba Bhattacharjee, 2. Vice Presidents: P.J. Lamare, Saibal Das Gupta, D. M. Marbaniang and Sanjoy Das, 3. General Secretary: Gideon l. Kharkongor, 4. Assistant Secretary: Biswajit Das, 5. Joint Secretaries: Manik Das, Sudesh Pradhan and Mark Ingty, 6. Treasurer: Amit Singhania.
B’desh cricketer’s wife arrested for torturing maid
Karachi: The Bangladesh Police have arrested cricketer Shahadat Hossain’s wife Nritto over allegations of beating an eleven-year-old maid. Confirming the news, police inspector Shafiqur Rahman said that Nritto had been arrested from her parent’s house while they are still searching for Shahadat, the Express Tribune reported. Receiving the information, the Bangladesh police had conducted the raid at the house but they didn’t find Shahadat. Earlier in September, the Bangladesh police had filed a case by a girl, who claimed to be working as a maid in cricketer’s house and accused him and his wife of torturing her. The girl was found injured and crying on a street in the capital Dhaka. (ANI)
