Nongstoin by poll likely in February

SHILLONG: The by election to the vacant Nongstoin Assembly seat is likely to be held sometime in February next year.
Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer P. Naik said on Wednesday that he had apprised the Election Commission of India about the vacancy in the Nongstoin seat following the demise of HSPDP leader Hoping Stone Lyngdoh on September 26.
Naik said that as the update of the electoral rolls will be completed in January, the department was looking at a date for holding the by election sometime in February next year.
