Road mishap claims State journo, one critical

SHILLONG: Peitngor Cable News (PCN) cameraman Kenny Warjri was killed in a car accident at Paikan under Krishnai police station in Goalpara district of Assam on Sunday afternoon while photojournalist Walton Lytan, who is associated with Guwahati based UB photos, was critically injured in the accident.
Sources informed that Kenny and Walton were heading towards Tura from Paikan to cover the GHADC election scheduled on Monday.
“They met with this tragic accident after the driver of the vehicle in which they were travelling lost control of the vehicle which went on to hit a huge tree on the side of the road at around 2:15 pm,” sources informed.
While Walton was sitting with the driver in the front of the vehicle, sources said Kenny was sitting at the back alone when the accident took place.
“All the three were rushed to Seven Sister’s Hospital and Research Centre, Goalpara. The doctor at the hospital declared Kenny dead at around 3 pm,” sources said.
On the advice of the doctor at Seven Sister’s Hospital at Goalpara, sources informed that Walton was shifted to GNRC, Guwahati.
Sources also informed that the condition of the driver, Gautam Dey, is stable.
The Meghalaya Editors’ & Publishers’ Association has expressed its profound shock and grief over the sudden demise of Kenny in the road accident in Assam while he was on media duty.
“Late Warjri was an amiable person whose contribution to journalism, especially the electronic media, was
outstanding and he was loved and respected by one and all. MEPA conveys its condolence to the bereaved family and prays that God grants them solace at this hour of grief. It also wishes speedy recovery to Walton Lytan, photographer who is presently under treatment for his injuries,” MEPA said in a statement.
