Oram issues directive on utilisation of fund

SHILLONG: Several departments of the state government have failed to utilize the fund meant for the development and welfare of tribals, according to Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram
Oram said this during a review meeting with several departments held on Tuesday.
According to an official statement on Tuesday, the Minister said  that some departments still need to utilize the fund that have been sanctioned. He said that he had directed the concerned departments to utilize the money as soon as possible without time overrun.
During his two-day visit to the state, the Minister had a review meeting with different departmental heads of the state . The meeting on Tuesday was attended by Minister, Social Welfare, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Deborah C Marak and Additional Chief Secretary, Meghalaya, K S Kropha.
Reserved seat not for non-tribals
Further, the Union Minister also clarified on the news item which appeared in  the media on the participation of non-tribals in district council elections. The Union Minister clarified that he has been misquoted and in this context he clarified that what he meant was that “any seat in the Legislative Assembly, Parliament or District Council, if it is reserved for a tribal, the seat should not be given to a non-tribal.
“I have not stated that non tribals should not be given the right to vote in Autonomous District Councils”, he added
