SHILLONG: The problems in the State Congress over the issue of dual post are set to linger with AICC general secretary in charge Meghalaya V. Narayanasamy deciding to postpone his visit to Shillong.
Narayanasamy was scheduled to visit Shillong on October 17 to meet Chief Minister Mukul Sangma and Chief Executive Member P N Syiem.
Talking over the phone from Delhi on Wednesday, Narayanasamy said that since he will be busy in a meeting in the national capital, the scheduled meeting has been postponed. He will now visit the state after Puja celebrations.
Sources said that during his visit, the AICC leader will meet both the Chief Minister and the KHADC CEM besides other party MLAs to iron out the differences within the Congress over the Government passing the dual post Bill.
Earlier, Syiem had openly criticized the Chief Minister for not consulting the CLP and MUA-II partners before bringing out the Bill in the present form.
Out of the two Congress legislators who were functioning as MDCs, HDR Lyngdoh, who is the District Council Minister, resigned from the post whereas Syiem is yet to relinquish the post.
Criticizing the Chief Minister and refusing to work under him, Syiem had announced his resignation from the post of chairman of Meghalaya Economic Development Council (MEDC) on October 5.
In the letter of resignation from the post addressed to the Chief Minister, Syiem had said” After considering all the facts on the style and functioning of the present MUA-II Government under your leadership, I do not see any justification to continue as the Chairman of MEDC.” During the discussion on the Bill in the Assembly on September 24, the Chief Minister had made it clear that the Bill was not meant to target anyone.
