Draft electoral rolls
The District Election Officer, East Khasi Hills District, has informed the public that the Draft Photo Electoral Rolls, with reference to Jan 1, 2016 as qualifying date, of the Assembly constituencies of Mawryngkneng, Pynthorumkhrah, Mawlai, East Shillong, North Shillong, West Shillong, South Shillong, Mylliem, Nongthymmai, Nongkrem, Sohiong, Mawphlang, Mawsynram, Pynursla and Mawkynrew are available for inspection at the office of the District Election Officer, Shillong or the designated polling stations and in all the offices of the Block Development Officers during working hours on working days.
Convocation
The National Institute of Technology Meghalaya will be conferring the B. Tech degree in the three branches of Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Electrical and Electronics Engineering in its 2nd Convocation to be held on October 19 in the temporary campus at Bijni Complex, Laitumkhrah, Shillong. Degrees will be conferred on 80 students who are currently working with various national and multinational companies across the country, having completed the programme in June 2015. Padma Vibhusan Dr. K. Kasturirangan, former Chairman of ISRO, will grace the occasion as the chief guest.
Lecture
Synod College, Shillong is going to organise a special lecture and an interaction programme with students and faculty on the theme “Biodiversity: Horizons for Higher Studies and Research” to be delivered by Prof. Lauchlan H. Fraser of Thompson Rivers University, British Columbia, Canada, on October 19 at 10 am in the College.
Mathematics Day
Jail Road Boys’ Higher Secondary School, Shillong, organised a ‘Mathematics celebration day’ on the school premises on Thursday under the theme ‘Mathematics is the essence of life’. Students from various city schools participated in the event. Vice Principal, PGT College, B. Buam, was the chief guest on the occasion.
Gratuitous relief
The Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai has informed that an amount of Rs.26,400 has been released to the family affected by fire incident in 2015 under Thadlaskein Block.
Dry Days
The District Magistrate, West Jaintia Hills has declared October 22 and 23 as dry days in the entire district on account of Durga Puja. All IMFL licensed premises, bars, canteens, country spirit shops and others will remain closed on the mentioned dates.
Condolence
The Shillong Bar Association in a condolence meeting condoled the sudden demise of S.C. Shyam, senior advocate.
Names missing
The Synjuk ki Khlieh Nongsynshar Shnong, Sohra, has alleged that some names were missing from the list of PDS beneficiaries in Sohra Subdivision. The Synjuk has demanded food under the PDS system to be released to residents of Sohra immediately.
