BSF barrack collapse: FIR against contractor, engineer

SHILLONG: The Border Security Force has filed an FIR against the contractor who constructed the BSF barrack at Mawpat which collapsed last week leading to injury to two jawans.
The FIR lodged by Gaurav Sharma, Deputy Commandant, BSF HQ, Mawpat, Shillong, said that on October 19 around 7 pm, a portion of the bathroom/ storeroom of a new building constructed by M/S Brolding Nongsiej at BSF Campus, Mawpat, Shillong collapsed.
It is yet to be known whether sitting UDP legislator from Mawthadraishan, Brolding Nongsiej, has anything to do with the firm M/S Brolding Nongsiej.
When contacted, BSF DIG Mahendra Singh said the work was executed by the CPWD and the building which can accommodate 120 jawans was inaugurated in November last year.
The BSF in its FIR has also named the CPWD Executive Engineer for certifying the building as safe for living and putting the lives of jawans at risk.
