SHILLONG: HSPDP MDC Morningstar Mawsor on Wednesday moved a motion in the House on the need to conduct a survey and compile records of land along the border.
“As per the Meghalaya Land Survey and Records Preparation Act, 1980, the Council has been authorized by the Sordar and Lyngdoh concerned to make records of the land 98 per cent of which belongs to the tribal people and the remaining 2 per cent belongs to the State Government,” the MDC said while moving the motion.
He spoke on the need to compile land record for the border areas of Jyrngam, Nongkhlaw, Khynriam (Block I and II), Nonglang, Nongspung and         Mylliem, and mentioned that people residing in the border areas were being pestered by Assam police.
Replying to the motion, Donevan Wahlang, EM in charge of Land, said people should approach the Council for record keeping of their land registration for which would be done free of cost.
“I will appeal to the Sordar and village heads to keep the land records with the Council so as to solve the boundary issue and prevent encroachment,” he added.
