Govt observes Ekta and Sankalp Diwas

SHILLONG: Along with the rest of the country, the Government of Meghalaya on Friday observed National Unity Day (Rashtriya Ekta Diwas) to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first Home Minister of India, and National Re-Dedication Day (Rashtriya Sankalp Diwas), commemorating the death anniversary of the first woman Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi in a united function held on the Secretariat premises.
Deputy Chief Minister R.C Laloo led the gathering of ministers, government officers and functionaries in taking the pledge to re-dedicate oneself to maintain the unity, integrity and security of the nation and resolve all differences and disputes through peaceful, constitutional means.
National integration camp
The North East Regional Institute of Education (NERIE) is organising a three-day national integration camp as part of National Integration Day observance. The camp was inaugurated by Governor V. Shanmuganathan on Thursday. Students from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland and Tripura, besides Meghalaya, are participating in the camp.
Activities like quiz competition, cultural programme, interaction with eminent Defence personnel and trip to places of cultural and traditional relevance are planned during the camp. On the concluding day of the camp on Saturday, Capt. Sushant Dutta, EAC, Shillong, will attend as the chief guest and distribute prizes to winners of the various activities.
