Raid Laban Sports Socio Cultural Organisation posthumously honours PCN cameraperson Kenny Warjri
SHILLONG: The Raid Laban Sports Socio Cultural Organisation (RLSSCO) felicitated over 300 meritorious students during an award function organised at the U Soso Tham Auditorium here on Saturday.
PCN cameraperson late Kenny B P Warjri was also posthumously honoured during the function.
Warjri passed away in a car accident on October 11. His widow collected the special award bestowed upon him by the organization.
Apart from late Warjri, two other recipients of the special award were National Award winner, Ardhendu Dey and Meghalaya State Award winner, Rev Overland Snaitang.
School and college teachers were also felicitated on the occasion in which as many as 346 students were lauded for their good performance in the various examinations including SSLC, HSLC, CBSE, Degree etc during the academic year 2015. President of the organization, Sanbor Shullai was also felicitated.
In his address, Governor V. Shanmuganthan urged the students to contribute to the society.
Pointing out that October 31 also happened to be the National Unity Day, the Governor, who was the chief guest on the occasion, urged the students to remain united “as unity shows our concern towards the society we live in.”
Differently abled children who excelled in various examinations were also awarded along with students from BPL background as well as deserving poor drop out students.
As many as 23 students were also given laptops on the occasion.
