SHILLONG: KHADC Chief Executive Member, P.N. Syiem, is awaiting a call from the party high command for a meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi to discuss the dual post issue.
“I am waiting for a call from Delhi to apprise the high command of my views on the matter,” Syiem said on Sunday.
He hoped that the Congress president will suggest a solution to the current impasse.
“The issue is serious and against the wish of the people; I hope that the Congress president will understand my grievances,” Syiem said.
Asked whether he would quit the post of MDC if there was such a direction from Sonia Gandhi, Syiem said, “Let me get the opinion of the AICC first.”
AICC general secretary in charge Meghalaya V. Narayanasamy has already submitted his report to the Congress president after the former’s visit to the State.
The AICC leader held meetings with the chief minister, Syiem and other legislators during his visit.
After the Assembly passed the dual post Bill with effect from October 1, only seven legislators quit the post of MDCs but Syiem has refused to relinquish his post stating that the chief minister did not hold proper consultations with the Congress legislators and MPA partners before tabling the Bill.
