By election: Support pours in for candidates
SHILLONG: Meghalaya Youth Federation (MYF) has extended its support to the organization’s legal advisor Fenela L. Nonglait who is contesting the by election to the Nongstoin constituency as an Independent candidate.
The organization lauded the efforts of Nonglait and has urged the people of Nongstoin to vote sensibly and extend their support to her.
Meanwhile, the Marngar clan has extended its support to Moslander Marngar who is contesting the same election on a UDP ticket.
The clan observed that he will be able to serve the tribal community and champion the cause of the people of the State.
Former ANVC-B men demand rehab package
SHILLONG: The Achik Matrgrik Society, a group constituted by former ANVC-B members, has urged Chief Minister Mukul Sangma to immediately release their pending rehabilitation package as decided in the agreed text settlement between the State Government, Central Government and the outfit.
In a memorandum submitted to the chief minister, chairman of the Society, Bernard Marak, said the agreement was signed 14 months back but they were yet to get any rehabilitation package.
He further said that police should stop its operations against former cadres of the group which had disbanded following the approval of the agreed text settlement.
One electrocuted in West Jaintia Hills
SHILLONG: One person died on the spot after coming into contact with live electric wire at Mookaiaw village in West Jaintia Hills on Monday. The deceased Charlie Lyngdoh (51) died on the spot.
Necessary formalities were observed and matter is under enquiry.
Employee missing with Rs 3 lakh
SHILLONG: One Shree Ram Singh has lodged a police complaint that on November 16 his employee Panchamlal Sahu went missing with Rs.3 lakh meant for depositing in a bank.
Police said the accused was absconding and efforts were on the trace the employee.
Three sustain burn injuries in city
SHILLONG: Two persons including a woman sustained burn injuries when a cooking stove burst in their residence at Mawiong Umjapung, Shillong, on November 13.
The victims Rangkynsai Marwein (22) and Elizabeth Syiemlieh (22) were admitted at Dr. H. Gordon Robert Hospital, Shillong.
Police said it was an accidental fire.
In another incident, a 13-year-old boy sustained burn injuries while bursting fire crackers inside the Raj Bhavan compound in the city on November 15.
The minor boy was shifted to Woodland Hospital, Shillong and matter is under enquiry.
NEHUSU meets VC with demands
SHILLONG: The NEHU Students’ Union (NEHUSU) on Monday met the Vice-Chancellor with a demand for increasing the number of seats in the Physical and Life Sciences departments from the next academic year and to issue advertisements for the vacant posts of Finance Officer, Registrar and Librarian.
The VC agreed to their demand for improving the security system in the University after the NEHUSU asked the University to follow the Private Security Agency Act to increase the number of security personnel.
Students of the School of Technology demanded resignation of the Dean of the School alleging that she has not been providing any help to the students for years. NEHUSU also raised the issue of non-payment of scholarships to M.Tech students as the building had not been approved by the AICTE.
‘Attack’ on Transport Commissioner’s vehicle
SHILLONG: Unknown miscreants allegedly pelted stones on the vehicle (ML-01-7744) belonging to the Commissioner of Transport, Meghalaya, at Demthring, Nongthymmai. on Monday evening.
The windshield of the vehicle was damaged.
Police were unsure whether the stone was intentionally or accidentally thrown but added that investigation was on.
