Split in HSPDP; Boost for Fenela

SHILLONG/NONSTOIN: The State Congress has expelled former minister Dr Adviser Pariong from the primary membership of the party on disciplinary ground with immediate effect.
The MPCC president DD Lapang informed this in a statement on Thursday.
It may be mentioned that Pariong on November 17 had campaigned for HSPDP candidate for the Nongstoin by-poll — Diosstarness Jyndiang — at Ladweitang.
The statement said that the expulsion was for “deliberately disobeying the order of the party by working against the party candidate in the Nongstoin bye-election and openly supporting the HSPDP candidate”.
Pariong had also announced that he and his supporters would join HSPDP soon.
When tried to contact for his reaction on the MPCC action, Pariong did not receive call.
SPLIT in HSPDP: Meanwhile, Pariong’s proposed re-entry into HSPDP created a vertical split in the party.
About hundred HSPDP supporters/ workers on Thursday quit the party and decided to extend support independent candidate Dr Fenela Lyngdoh Nonglait.
The group is led by Mumral Lyngdoh, D.W Shangdiar, S.N thongni, P. Lyngkhoi and H.F Marngar.
They also criticized the party chief Ardent Miller Basawiamoit for his ‘dictatorial leadership’.
According to Mumral Lyngdoh, Pariong should not be allowed to rejoin the party as he did not come to pay last respect to the mortal remains of HS Lyngdoh. “At that time he was busy in his clinic,” he added.
