One held for rioting during headmen’s rally on Nov 5

SHILLONG: Amid protest from several women, one George Rynjah (20), son of John Lyngdoh of Lawsohtun Block-2, was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the rioting on November 5 during the public rally called by headmen on issues related to VAB near the Civil Hospital Junction. Police, however, clarified that the arrested youth did not belong to any pressure group.Police added that some women had attempted to prevent police from carrying out their lawful duty.”Preventing police from carrying out their legal duty is crime under Indian Penal Code and police will not hesitate to take up a regular case against such people,” East Khasi Hills SP M. Kharkrang said.
