SHILLONG: The State Government more or less has completed the land acquisition process for setting up of entry/exit points to check influx in the state.
Informing this here on Tuesday, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said that now Government was awaiting NOC from KHADC to setup the points in Khasi Hills area.
The process of land acquisition has started in all the districts of Garo Hills except North Garo Hills and NOC from GHADC has also been obtained, the Chief Minister told reporters after a meeting with the pro -ILP groups here on the implementation of comprehensive mechanism to check influx.
In North Garo Hills, the administration is facing the problem of land acquisition, he said.
Tuesday’s meeting was a follow up of the last meeting on the issue which was held on August 14, where the state government had set a 125-day timeline for implementation of the Phase-I & II of setting up of the entry/exit points.
With regards to Khasi Hills, Sangma said that the proposal for obtaining NOC had been submitted to KHADC and the Deputy Commissioner had been directed to pursue the matter.
According to Sangma, the process has started for Jaintia Hills and now Meghalaya Institute of Governance (MIG) would conduct social impact assessment prior to the issuance of land acquisition notification.
Referring to Benamic transaction Bill and Residential Bill, the Chief Minister said that Law department had sought for some more time for fine-tuning the bills.
“Once the process is completed, we would table the two Bills in the State Assembly for consideration,” Sangma said, adding that he has directed Finance department to arrange fund for the purpose.
On the other hand, FKJGP president Joe Marwein told reporters that the pressure groups had asked the state government to direct these departments to speed up the process of completing all the requirements in order to ensure that entry/exit points are set up at the earliest.
