Chetia’s bodyguard in judicial custody

Guwahati: Designated TADA court here on THursday remanded ULFA cadre Babul Goswami, the ‘ a bodyguard’ of ULFA ‘general secretary’ Anup Chetia who was extradited from Bangladesh recently with both his  bodyguards , to 14 days judicial custody.
He was produced before the court by Special Branch personnel of Assam Police, which had arrested him  in connection with two cases of 1993.
The court remanded Goswami to 14 days of judicial custody and ordered that he being produced before  the court at the end of the remand. His bail petition will be heard by the court on December two next.
Goswami had surrendered at Mangaldai police station of Darrang district yesterday, in response to  summons issued at his Mangaldai residence, after spending a night at his residence for the first time since returning to India in nearly two decades.
He was wanted in connection with two cases of 1993, registered at Mangaldai and Sipajhar police stations.
He was taken into custody by Assam Police Special Branch immediately and brought to Guwahati, where he was produced before court on Thursday.
Anup Chetia and his two ‘bodyguards’ Babul Goswami and Lakhi Prasad Goswami were handed to India by Bangladesh on November 11 last.
There were arrested in Dhaka, Bangladesh in December 1997 on charges of possession of fake passports, foreign currencies and other cases and were lodged in Bangladesh jails ever since.
While Chetia and Babul are both in judicial custody under separate court orders, Lakhi Prasad has been set free in absence of any police case against him.
