HC rejects rape accused Assam MLA’s bail plea
Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court on Thursday rejected bail petition of rape-accused MLA Gopinath Das, stating that his release could hamper the police investigation.
The Court ordered that Das be held in judicial custody till police completes the investigation in the rape charge brought against him by a domestic help.The court had rejected Das’ bail petitions on multiple occasions in the case.
An AIUDF legislator from Boko constituency, Das was arrested by police from Hajo Chowk in Kamrup (rural) district on October four last after he went absconding a day after the rape case was filed against him a month earlier.
Das is facing allegation of raping his 14-year-old domestic help in his car in August last. (UNI)

AR IG conference held
SHILLONG: The Assam Rifles Inspectorate General’s Conference 2015 was held at Headquarters Directorate General Assam Rifles, here on Thursday. The Conference was chaired by Lieutenant General Harminderjit Singh Sachdev, Director General of Assam Rifles and was   attended by all the Inspector General’s in the Force, nominated Formation Commanders and Commandants of Assam Rifles Battalions and Staff from the Force Headquarters in Shillong.
The emphasis of the Inspector General’s  Conference was on drawing lessons from past experience in various fields and improving upon these aspects for an overall better efficiency of the Force; with overall aim of living up to the bestowed title of ‘Sentinels of North East’ and ‘Friends of the North East  People’.
During the conference, the Director General exhorted everyone to carry out an honest and critical self appraisal for long term betterment of the Force.  He brought out that the Assam Rifles has always identified itself with the populace of North East and ensured their security and well being.  The challenge now facing the Commanders was to sustain the same and live up to it.
