Kidnapping gang busted, 4 arrested

TURA: West Garo Hills police have arrested four members of the gang, which was allegedly behind the abduction of a road construction firm employee Braj Kishore Thakur.
Thakur was forcibly taken away from the road construction site at Malchapara, near Betasing, on November 21. Police have seized the vehicle used in the kidnapping.
The accused have been identified as Prokash D Sangma (23) of Dobetkolgre village in Williamnagar, Polendro Ch Momin (34) of Kolligre village in Kalaichar, Anat Koch (23) from Barengapara (Dalu) and Jhotiram Koch (36) from Kalipara in Kalaichar.
Preliminary investigation by police indicates that the members belonged to the UALA outfit.
The mobile sim belonging to kidnapped victim Thakur has also been recovered from one of the arrested gang members.
The arrested gang members reportedly confessed to police that they received a ransom of Rs 1.50 lakh from the family of Thakur for his release and the money was handed over to them on November 25 at Garobada area.
They also confessed that after receiving the money they came to Tura and spent a substantial amount of it in purchasing liquor to have a good time.
Police are probing their involvement in other criminal activities and cases.
Meanwhile, a local from Tura identified as Sanjay Das (43), hailing from Anandamath locality has been arrested for preparing seals for the banned GNLA.
GNLA cadre surrenders: A GNLA cadre identified as Sengku surrendered to police at the Rongsak Anti-Dacoity camp (AD camp) on Friday morning. He did not deposit any weapon.
The surrendered cadre disclosed that he underwent three months of training and the outfit’s chief Sohan D Shira attended his passing out parade at the GNLA general camp in the Durama hills. He claimed that he got disillusioned with the ideology of the outfit and decided to return to a normal life.
