SHILLONG: The second phase of the Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS), has been finally rolled out and more than 3.5 lakh people have been registered for the scheme in the state till now. It was also informed that 1500 people have availed to the benefits of the scheme so far.
Officials said that so far around rupees nine crores have been reimbursed under the scheme. Initially, MHIS-II had targeted to cover 7,59,515 households in Meghalaya with the policy period commencing from August 1, 2015.
Fresh scheme would be more beneficial to people due to increase in the number of packages from 1142 to 1704.
They also added that all the hospitals in the state have been covered under the scheme.
It may be mentioned that the State Government has signed an agreement with New India Assurance Company Ltd. to roll out the second phase of MHIS to provide comprehensive and universal health insurance cover for the entire population of the State. MHIS-II provides enhanced coverage of up to Rs.2 lakh for the beneficiaries.
Apart from the hospitals in the state, 13 hospitals from outside the State have also been empanelled under the scheme.
