Police foil AMEF plan to abduct VDP members

TURA: East Garo Hills police successfully prevented the kidnapping of village defense party personnel in Nongchram village by Garo militants from the A’chik Matgrik Elite Force (AMEF) outfit on Saturday night.
A group of AMEF militants led by senior cadre Cheang had gone to Dimre bazar of Nongchram to abduct three VDP personnel at around 7:30 pm. Rongjeng police received a tip off about the presence of the militants and conducted a search operation during which they nabbed two AMEF suspects identified as Chasil N Sangma (24) and Changke R Marak (19). Both hailed from Jangchigittim area of Dimre Bazar. Following the arrest of the two suspects, the AMEF ultras abandoned their abduction plan and fled the area.
